  7. Minutes of the Internet School Networking Working Group (ISN)

  9. The Internet School Networking Working Group is chartered to facilitate
  10. the use of the Internet by United States' K-12 (Kindergarten-12th Grade)
  11. schools, public and private, and school networking in general.
  12.  
  13. It is critically important to establish guidelines for the integration
  14. of K-12 educational networking into the Internet.  The Working Group's
  15. first priority will be to establish connectivity models, including
  16. costs, for distribution to all parties concerned with connection of K-12
  17. schools to the Internet.  This Working Group will also provide
  18. guidelines to technical solutions for other support services such as
  19. directories, online and hotline help, specialized training programs and
  20. collaborative projects with instructional and curriculum groups,
  21. disciplinary groups and post-secondary institutions.

  23. In pursuit of these goals, the Working Group will work closely with
  24. other organizations such as the Consortium for School Networking, and
  25. the Coalition for Networked Information.  Finally, the Working Group
  26. will act as technical consultant to K-12 organizations and groups
  27. seeking connection and access to the Internet.

  29. While we agreed that the first task for the Working Group was to produce
  30. a document which outlined multiple connectivity models for K-12
  31. connection to the Internet, we also briefly discussed one other project
  32. which should be raised, that is the user interface document.  The idea
  33. here is to discuss and come to agreement on what would constitute
  34. standards for K-12 interface(s) to the Internet.  These run the gamut
  35. from e-mail to bulletin boards.  Competing with this project for number
  36. 2 priority status is an RFC which provides the 25 most commonly asked
  37. questions about K-12 connection to and use of the Internet.
